Belmont Elementary School Virtual Science Fair 2020

Hi Belmont Community,

We are thrilled to bring you the Belmont Elementary Science Fair in a virtual format for 2020.  We realize that so many of you have so much going on during these troublesome times and adding one more activity may seem overwhelming. The Science Fair is always optional, and please understand that there is no pressure or obligation to participate in the virtual format, even if you were previously registered to participate in the regular science fair. Additionally, all students who are newly interested are invited to participate now. Even though schools are closed, we would still like to give our students the opportunity to show off their curiosity and display their enthusiasm for science!

On this website, our students can submit their science fair projects virtually.  We will be accepting submissions and comments from now until June 1, 2020.

Students should complete a regular science fair project and develop a project display. Students are not required to make their project display on the traditional tri-fold display board. Students can use a poster board, large paper, or use a computer to make their display. It should contain all the same elements as a traditional display. Then, simply take a picture of their project to upload to the blog. Please email a picture (JPG, GIF, or PNG) of the student's science fair poster along with the following information to the submission email address in the informational email.

Parent e-mail address:
Student Name (first and last):
Grade:
Project Description (approx. 3 sentences):

Note: For privacy reasons, only your child’s first name and grade, along with the project description you provide will be posted on the website.

We have attached an easy Google doc template. If this is helpful for you and your student, feel free to use this template to complete the display.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept word documents or powerpoint presentations. Instead, we ask that parents convert their child's project from a Word/Powerpoint document into a JPG, GIF, or PNG file.
The simplest way to do this would be to print it out the project and take a picture with the parents phone or even take a picture of the computer monitor.

Or, you can use your computer's PrtSc function by clicking: Ctrl + PrtSc at the same time. Then, open Paint and hit Ctrl + V at the same time to paste your screen shot. Save your student's project as a JPG,
GIF, or PNG and email it to the submission address.

Please allow 3-5 days for review of your submission and posting of your project. Once the project is posted to the Virtual Science Fair, other students and science judges may then comment on the project and students can then benefit from virtual scientific discussions regarding their poster and topic of interest. When posting comments, the website will require you to sign in with a google account and put in a name; we do not allow anonymous comments. Please allow 1-2 days for review of all comments.

We want to make sure all projects and comments are moderated so that everyone can have a family-friendly, positive virtual science fair experience!  We hope that our Virtual Science Fair will still allow students to show off their curiosity while encouraging scientific interaction among students and scientists.

Thank you for reading and see you at the Virtual Science Fair!

Your (Virtual) Science Fair co-chairs,
Laura and Amrita
